Breaking News – Oerlikon sells Schlafhorst’s Mönchengladbach Business Park

Swiss technology group Oerlikon sold Schlafhorst Businesspark (140’000 m2) in Mönchengladbach (D) to neighbouring company SMS Meer

The agreement has been signed January 29, 2013 and the selling price is in a low double-digit million Euro range. The divestment of the industrial park is the logical next step of the followed strategy to divest non-operating assets.

When beginning to consolidate the Textile Segment’s production sites two years ago, Oerlikon moved the production of rotor spinning machines from Mönchengladbach to the headquarters of its Naturral Fibres Businesss Unit in Übach-Palenberg (D), and this process has been completed last year, leaving Oerlkon Schlafhorst with only a few administrative employees and a technical centre at Schlafhorst Businesspark.

Dr. Joachim Schoenbeck, CEO of SMS Meer declared: Schlafhorst Businesspark is an ideal location for SMS Meer because it creates a number of opportunities for the expansion of our location. SMS Meer intends to continue applying the concept of the industrial park with currently 14 tenants occupying 110000 m2 of office and production space. Among the tenants we count also Monforts Textile Machinery manufacturer.
