The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of sole control of Voith Hydro Holding GmbH & Co. KG and its general partner Voith Hydro Holding Verwaltungs GmbH (‘Voith Hydro’) by the Voith group of companies (‘Voith’), all of Germany. Voith Hydro, currently jointly controlled by Voith and a subsidiary of Siemens Energy AG, manufactures and sells power units for hydropower plants.
Voith manufactures and sells paper machines, hydropower plants, transmission and control technology for commercial vehicles and buses, agriculture and construction machinery, rolling stock, and shipping and industrial applications for many industrial sectors.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns given the absence of overlaps or vertical links between the activities of the companies. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure. More information will be available on the Commission’s competition website, in the public case register under the case number M.10547.
