Better output by working less? The concept may sound counterproductive, but more than half of employers that introduced “circuit breaker” holidays during the COVID-19 pandemic saw boosts in employee mental health and morale, according to our recent survey.

Riding the resignation wave

he turnover tsunami sweeping over the workforce is carrying with it more parents of color than their White colleagues. Businesses focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts have cause for concern since as many as 50 percent of non-White parents indicated in our recent survey that they planned to leave their jobs.

Start me up

Greater support of and investment in German start-ups could generate value up to €2.3 trillion by 2030—a boost from the €1 trillion estimated on its current trajectory. More successful start-ups there could also create nearly 1.5 million jobs, double what is projected with the current pace of start-up founding activity.

New business on board

There may not be a perfect time to start a new business, but parents seem more inclined to take the plunge than their nonparent colleagues. According to our recent survey, 45 percent of respondents with children indicated they would consider leaving their jobs to start a business, compared with 31 percent of workers without kids.

It’s quicker to build inventories than factories

The supply-chain woes choking world trade are well known. But what are companies doing about it? We surveyed leaders in May 2020 and again in 2021. While companies originally planned a host of actions, the leading response by far has been to build inventories.

Office space

The uptick in remote and hybrid work is causing organisations to rethink how they use their office space. More than 50 percent of respondents to our recent survey noted they are optimizing their real-estate portfolios or have already done so. At the top of their list are flexible desk arrangements and early lease termination.
