  • Picking a PCT Receiving Office (November 17, 2021)

Any would-be PCT filer that is able to use PCT at all will always have at least two Receiving Offices to choose from. There may be advantages and disadvantages to the various choices of Receiving Offices depending upon the circumstances for the applicant. Indeed in some specific situations, it can turn out that one Receiving Office will be a much better choice for the applicant than any other. Access to more details on this page.

Although Mr. Oppedahl will look at this mostly from the perspective of a potential US-based filer, many of the points discussed will be of interest to filers located anywhere in the world.

  • National phase or bypass continuation? (November 19, 2021)

For many of the designations from a PCT application, there is a single path by which the applicant might pursue patent protection, and that path is the entry into the national or regional phase.

But for the PCT applicant that wishes to pursue US patent protection, what might not be fully appreciated is that there are two possible paths, namely the very familiar path of entry into the national phase but also an alternative path called “bypass continuation”. Access to more details on this page.
In this webinar Mr. Oppedahl will compare and contrast the two paths. He will discuss possible advantages and disadvantages of the two paths.

  • Picking a PCT International Searching Authority (December 8, 2021)

There are 23 ISAs (and soon to be 24). In some Receiving Offices, the applicant has the opportunity to select from as many as eight ISAs. One of the Receiving Offices in which an applicant has this many choices is RO/US. Access to more details on this page.

Mr. Oppedahl will discuss the many factors that an applicant might wish to consider in selecting an ISA.

Although Mr. Oppedahl will look at this mostly from the perspective of a potential US-based filer, many of the points discussed will be of interest to filers using any of the other ROs that permit a choice of ISAs.
