The process to select a future OECD-Secretary General was initiated in early November 2020. Ten candidates were standing for election. The first results of the first selectionround were announced on January 14, 2021 from the Chairman of the selectioncommittee.

The Swiss Federal Council welcomes that Philipp Hildebrand for his qualities and competence is among the candidates enjoying a wide support i and he therefore stays in the nomination selection processs. The Federal Council will fully back the candidacy – the gremium is convinced that it is the foremost best.
In the framework of his campaign Philipp Hildebrand was helding bilateral discussion with 19 ministers and 22 deputy ministers. In total over the past weeks more than 100 bilateral discussions took place on a virtual basis or personal, with authorities of 36 other OECD member countries.
Apart from the Swiss candidacy the following persons still have their hat in the rounds: Mathias Cormann (AUS), Ulrik V. Knudsen (DK), Kersti Kaljulaid (Estland), Anna Diamantopoulou (GR), Bill Morneau (CND), Cecilia Malmström (S) and Christopher Liddell (USA).
The results of the second round will be announces on January 28, 2021. The nomination process Ends early March. Taking office will be June 1, 2021.
