EU Commission clears the acquisition of Metro by EPGC

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of Metro AG of Germany by EP Global Commerce a.s. (‘EPGC’) of Czechia.

 Metro is active in the wholesale of daily consumer goods.

EPGC is an acquisition vehicle currently holding a non-controlling interest in Metro. EPGC is controlled by Mr Daniel Křetínský, who holds interests in companies active in the energy, utilities, media, and e-commerce sectors.

The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, given that the companies are not active in the same business areas. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure. More information is available on the Commission’s
