In September 2020 compared with August, 2020, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector decreased by 2.9 % in the euro areaand by 2.5 % in the EU, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In August 2020, production in construction increased by 3.9 % in the euro areaand by 3.5 %in the EU.In September 2020 compared with September2019, production in construction decreasedby 2.5 % in the Euro Area andby 2.7 % in the EU.
Monthly comparison by construction sector and by Member State
In the Euro Area in September 2020, compared with August2020,building construction decreased by 3.2 % and civil engineering by 0.4 %.In the EU,building construction decreased by 2.7 % and civil engineering by 0.8 %. Among Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases in production in construction were recorded in France(-8.4 %),Italy(-8.1 %) and Slovakia(-3.0 %). The highest increases were observed in Slovenia(+2.6%), Romania (+1.7%),Bulgaria and Germany (both +1.5 %). Annual comparison by construction sector and by Member State.

In the Euro Area in September 2020, compared with September2019, building construction decreased by 3.0 % whilecivil engineering increasedby 0.2 %.In the EU building construction decreased by 2.9 % and civil engineering by 1.4 %.Among Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases in production in construction were observed in Slovakia(-22.8 %),Hungary(-14.7 %) and Poland(-11.8 %). The highest increases were recorded inRomania(+17.3 %), Slovenia (+7.9 %) and Italy(+5.1 %).
