Swiss exports in August 2020 are exceeding since March the first time the milestone of CHF 18 billion

Swiss foreign trade were in August on a recovery course, whereas the imports were sinking. Exports closes with a plus of 3.7 % , thus above the CHF 18 billion treshold. The imports decreased in a month at value by 1.8 % to CHF 14.9 billion, thus the trade balance showed a positive result of CHF 3.4 billion.

The total Swiss August Exports amounted to CHF 18.323 Billion or a plus of nominal 3.7 %, in real terms + 2.9 %, and total Swiss imports reached  CHF 14.914 billion (-1.8 % and in real tems -1.3 %.), thus chemicals and pharmaceutical Imports shrank by CHF 630 million , whereas in July there was an increase of 9.4 %.  There were also less verhicles (-3.7 %), and less machjinery and electronics (1.5 %). On the other hand, there was an increase of imitation jewellery and jewellery (+CHF 180 million),  as well as more metals, food and beverages.

Seasonal adapted exports of textiles, clothing and footwear recovered at CHF 407 million (CHF +16 million or nominal + 4 % and 3.4 % in real terms. The imports of the same group reached CHF 992 million or CHF 49 million or 4.7 % nominal less than in July and -5.3 % less in real terms.

Clothing imports were CHF 617 million, minus CHF 3 million or minus 0.5 % nominal and -1.5 % in real terms.

Footwear imports were registered at CHF 176 or less CHF 2 million or -1.3 % nominal and -1.6 % in real terms.
