Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Brigitte Zypries officially inaugurated the SME 4.0 Competence Centre “Textil vernetzt” together with two other centres “IT Economy” and “Usability” on 4 December 2017 in Berlin, Germany. “Textil vernetzt” consists of four display windows with different focal points and a showroom in Berlin. The display window of the Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of the RWTH Aachen University, initiated by Dr Yves-Simon Gloy, features a fully integrated textile process chain showing the economic benefits of digital transmission.
The consortium management was taken over by the general association textil+mode. The project partners of the other display windows are the DITF in Denkendorf Germany, the STFI in Chemnitz, Germany, and the Hahn-Schickard-Gesellschaft in Stuttgart, Germany.
Prof. Dr Thomas Gries (ITA) and Dr Yves-Simon Gloy (ITA) commented: “Thanks to the promotion of BMWi, through our learning factory, we are able to demonstrate to the German textile industry in a very practical way the endless opportunities and possibilities available through the technological leap via industry 4.0 offers and the path towards its implementation.”
What is „Mittelstand-Digital“?
“Mittelstand-Digital” is a programme of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. It is a medium to inform small and medium-sized enterprises about the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation. Regional competence centres help small retailers as well as the larger industrial members with expert knowledge, demonstration centres, networks for exchanging experiences and practical examples. The Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy offers all the services of Mittelstand Digital free of charge.
ITA, the Institut für Textiltechnik (Institute for Textile Technology) belongs to the excellence University RWTH Aachen. Its core expertise consists of textile related production technologies and high performance materials. With the Centre for High Performance Materials ITA offers small and medium sized companies direct access to scientific research especially in the fields of high modulus fibres and composites. ITA provides research and development services and advanced training and creative workshops in cooperation with its partner company ITA Technologietransfer GmbH. Furthermore, ITA graduates students in various textile related courses.
Started in winter semester 2015/2016, ITA is offering the new international Master degree ‘M.Sc. in Textile Engineering’ in cooperation with RWTH International Academy.
