AATCC J.W. Weaver Paper of the Year Award
Amit Madhu and Jadu Nandan (J.N.) Chakraborty are the recipients of the J. William Weaver Paper of the Year Award for their paper “Bio-Bleaching of Cotton with H2O2 Generated from Native and Immobilized Glucose Oxidase,” published in the 2019 AATCC Journal of Research. The award includes a framed certificate signed by the AATCC president and the Publications Committee chair; it was presented at AATCC’s 2020 International Conference during the Awards Luncheon.
Madhu is an assistant professor in the Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences located in Bhiwani, Haryana, India. He received his B.Tech (Textile Chemistry) and M.Tech (Textile Chemistry) from B. R. Ambedkar Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences in 2007 and 2009, respectively, and his PhD from the National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, Punjab, India in 2019. He was previously an Assistant Professor in the Textile Department at Panipat Institute of Engineering & Technology, Panipat, Haryana, India. Madhu has more than 15 articles in research and review publications.
Chakraborty is a professor in the Department of Textile Technology at the B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar, Punjab, India. He received his B. Sc. Tech from the University of Calcutta in 1985, M. Tech. from M. D. University, Rohtak in 1991, and his PhD from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi in 2001. From 1986 through 1989, he was a Dyeing Assistant with Bowreah Cotton Mills Pvt. Ltd. in Howrah, India, and in 1991, he was a Research and Development Officer for Modern Suitings Ltd. in Alwar, India. Chakraborty has been a member of AATCC since 2010. He is also a member of the Society of Dyers and Colourists, the Textile Association, India, and the Indian Society of Technical Education, India.
The AATCC Publications Committee presents the J. William Weaver Paper of the Year Award to the author or authors of the best peer reviewed paper published in AATCC Journal of Research each year.
Even before it began publishing its own journal, AATCC had a long-standing tradition of friendly rivalry among authors. From 1925 to 1933, awards were presented for the best AATCC conference papers published by American Dyestuff Reporter. From 1940 to 1996, an Intersectional Paper Competition winner was chosen each year. In January 1969, AATCC began publishing Textile Chemist and Colorist and in February 1979, an annual award was established to honor the best paper published in that journal. In 1990, the award was named for J. William Weaver, who was chair of the AATCC Editorial Board at the time of his death.
