•             Shipment follows announcement to donate masks, test kits and other medical supplies to Europe to help combat the spread of the Covid-19 virus

The Alibaba Foundation and Jack Ma Foundation, established by the founder of the global technology company Alibaba Group, Jack Ma, donated face masks and testing kits to Switzerland to support the fight against Covid-19.

Discharging of the goods at Liège Airport to be transported to Switzerland

The cargo flight loaded with the first batch of supplies departed from Hangzhou, China, and arrived at Alibaba’s Belgium eWTP Hub at Liège Airport for further transportation to Switzerland. The Belgian eWTP Hub has contributed to the efficient international transport of goods during this crisis, and Cainiao Network, Alibaba’s logistics arm, has increased the number of chartered cargo flights to five per week during this period.

The relief effort was also made possible thanks to the close cooperation with the Swiss Ministry of Defence – whose action was crucial to enable a rapid response and delivery of donated medical supplies.

This donation is among a number of aid initiatives from the Alibaba Foundation and Jack Ma Foundation to support the areas of the world most affected by the Covid-19 crisis, sourcing and delivering various types of medical supplies to China, South East Asia, United States, Africa, Austria, Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Slovenia, The Netherlands, Denmark and Spain. The Foundations are also funding research and development of Covid-19 virus treatment options in China and at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Australia) and Columbia University (USA). Further donations are expected to be announced over the coming days and weeks.

The Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation have published and distributed a handbook detailing learnings and best practices from the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, for treating Covid-19 patients:
