VDMA: Sewing and Garment Technology on growth path
German manufacturers of Sewing and Garment technology are again looking back on a successful year 2016: Sales increased by 8 per cent compared to last year. Likewise, exports increased by 7 per cent from 523 million Euros in 2015 to 561 million Euros in 2016. Key export markets for German Sewing and Garment technology were Poland, the US and China. Only incoming orders increased by mere 0,1 per cent in 2016 compared to last year
The forecast for the current year is positive as well. “In the first quarter of 2017, German manufacturers of Sewing and Garment technology reported an increase in sales of 9,5 per cent in real terms”, explained Elgar Straub, Managing Director of VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies, on the occasion of Texprocess kick-off press conference on May 8 in Frankfurt. With 8,8 per cent increase during the first three months of the current year, the order income posted significant growth as well.
Expectations are accordingly high for Texprocess. The leading international trade fair for processing textile and flexible materials will open its doors in Frankfurt from May 9 to 12, offering international manufacturers of Sewing and Garment technology and machines for processing technical textiles the ideal platform for presenting their innovations.
The major issue at Texprocess will be the megatrend individualization: due to the great demand for individual products, the need in automation and digitization of the entire value chain is increasing as well. Other important issues for the sector that will be presented at Texprocess are Digital Printing, the development of Functional and Smart textiles as well as sustainability.
