Silk cocoon production registered 3 % rise to 937 metric tons this fiscal year
During the meeting held by India’s Financial Commissioner Agriculture Production Department (APD), Pramod Jain, at the State Level Project Monitoring Committee (SLPMC) of Sericulture Development Department disclosed that cocoon production registered an increase of 3 percent , recording 973 MT in the current financial from last year’s 147 MT raw silk produced
Under Institute Village Linkage Program (IVLP), Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute (CSR&TI) has adopted 100 cocoon farmers in the vicinity of the institute at Pampore. The projects planned for development of Silk Industry in the state with the support of Central Silk Board (CSB).
Director Sericulture, Malik Farooq, informed that department of sericulture has taken various initiatives for uplift of this vital sector so that the silk industry is developed on sustainable basis.
He also informed that two separate projects for SC/ST families associated with the sericulture sector are in offing.
Speaking on the occasion, Financial Commissioner stressed upon the officers to put in strenuous efforts to optimally achieve the set targets under various schemes .He stressed on sustainable development of the sericulture sector in the state making it an economically viable activity.
