Swiss Designer bestowed at New York Fashion Week
Swiss Designer Albert Kriemler was bestowed at the Lincoln Centre on the opening day for his brand Akris with the Artistry of Fashion Award by the Couture Councils at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Former winners were Alber Elbasz, Dries van Noten, Valentino or Karl Lagerfeld.
The New York Fashion Week started on September 7, 2016 and it is not a routine show since many designers, among Tom Ford and Tommy Hilfiger announced that they will follow a new system named See now, Buy now. The line shown can be purchased just a day after the show. However it is not clear how designer without their own sales channel will be able to follow the new system.
Albert Kriemler, the designer from St.Gall, Switzerland accepted the price – a stylish yarn spool with a golden needle – at a fundraising lunch. He told of his first visits to New York at an age of 19 years and stated: “When I saw the windows at Bergdorf Goodman, I felt the urge that I will present one day my own collection in New York. Ten years later this was the case and the renowned department store placed at the end of the 80s the first order. The U.S. became for the quality label Akris one of the most important markets. In 1997 the Kriemler family opened its first boutique in New York’s Manhattan, the city is with its high rise buildings a most important source of inspiration, because Kriemler is also an architecture fan.
On September 9, 2016 Akris will present on the catwalk in New York, formerly the presentation of the actual collection took place at the Paris Fashion Week in October. Kriemler commented this change that he wants to return some respect to the city, a quality he enjoyed already when he was very young. For Kriemler the change to the Hudson River represents also an opportunity to overthink seasonality and the rhythm of the collections, particularly in times when new concepts are addressed. However, Akris is not aiming for a permanent place at the News York presentation calendar. For the upcoming season the fashion house will present again in Paris at the Fédération Française de la Couture where it became a member in 1996.
