Swiss community servants receive more sustainable clothing
Swiss community servants (instead of military duty) will be provided with uniform clothing made of sustainable cotton
The Swiss Federal sourcing authority armasuisse has placed a sourcing order for these uniforms that comply with social and environmental standards to a Swiss company.
The Federal sourcing law prescribes sustainability in sourcing. This means that respective sourcing orders have to comply with a fair and environmental friendly criteria in the production of such items. In the tender for the uniforms of Swiss community servants such criteria were applied.
All cotton products for this purpose have to be produced according to GOTS Global Organic Textile Standard defining environmental technical requirements along the textile value chain and establish social minimum standards as well. For mixed products and rainwear exists the Oeko-TEx 100 Standard, as well as the standards of eight core conventions of ILO, the International Labour Organisation. The new clothing will be available in the course of 2016 and will be distributed after the consumption of existing reminders of the actual series of clothing.
