Dornier CEO Peter D. Dornier of Lindauer Dornier has commissioned on June 15, 2015 to ITA Institute for Textile Technology of RWTH Aachen University a Dornier air jet weaving machine. It is a gift for the 80th anniversary of the institute that took place on September 19, 2015 and will serve for advanced training of students, and as well as for scientific purposes
The Dornier air jet weaving machine A 1 with a working width of 190 cm is a model of the newest generation of air jet weaving machines of marked improved efficiency. The sectors textile engineering/weaving of ITA are now equipped to do research work on the newest weaving machine generation.
The head of ITA, Prof. Thomas Gries stated at the official ceremony: “a hearty thank you to Peter Dornier for his gift that will be enabling us to serve a lot better the topic Industrie 4.0, meaning the informatisation of the manufacturing technology. We sincerely hope that Dornier will continue to join us as strategic partner.”
The company and ITA are looking back at a longstanding successful partnership. In many research projects Peter D. Dornier actively supported ITA with personnel and material gifts. He has a high esteem for the education at ITA and Dornier was able to already recruit two doctorate ITA absolvents.
ITA was particularly pleased that Peter Dornier dedicated his time after the handover ceremony to deliver a speech at the ITA site. The room was overcrowded by the many attendees such as graduating persons, students and collaborators from the institute. Prof. Gries remarked in a good mood: “I think, we finally have to add more room.” A lively discussion round followed the speech of Peter Dornier.
