Freudenberg inaugurates new logistic centre in Kaiserslautern, Germany

The new multi-purpose facility from Freudenberg in Kaiserlautern (D) was inaugurated at a ceremony in presence of Dr. Klaus Weichel, Mayor of Kaiserlautern, Knuth Fickartz, Freudenberg’s head of automotive filters Europe, and deputy chairman of Kaiserlautern Works’ Council, Gunter Mühlberger

The total investment amounts to around EUR 10 million and is a clear signal of the company’s commitment to Kaiserlautern. The company is present in Kaiserlautern since 1970 and filters were manufactured there since 2001. Also Freudenberg Nonwovens and Helix Medical Buiness Groups – overall 500 Freudenberg employees – are located in the city. micronAir_Catalog_2011_2012-1

The new logistic centre covers a surface of 12000 m2 and serves the packaging and distribution of filters. Around 270 Freudenberg employees of Filtration Technologies manufacture micronAir car cabin filters at this site. With the new logistic centre, products can be delivered more quickly to the customer. Six height adjustable docking stations make it possible to load and unload up to 45 trucks per day. To avoid traffic problems, the new facility has its own truck access.

MicronAir is used by automotive and air conditioning manufacturers, as well as in industrial plants throughout Europe. The car cabin air filter protects car occupants from dust, as well pollen, particulates, bacteria, industrial dust, and other fine particles that can enter the lungs. The combi filter absorbs harmful gases such as ozone and benzene, as well as unpleasant odours. High performance synthetic air filters for combustion engines are also manufactured at the site.

The European market for cabin air filters is growing. As a result, Freudenberg has increased its production by 30 % since 2008. Two thirds of all vehicles on the road are equipped with Freudenberg Filtration Technologies and cabin air filters. The Business Group supplies the European from its factories in Potvorice, Slovkia and Kaiserslautern. In September 2013, a new multi-purpose facility was opened in Potvorice.
