RFID forecast for players and opportunities 2014
Mumbai (IND) headquartered Bharat Book Bureau presented recently RFID Forecast 2014-2024. In 2013, the total RFID market is worth USD 7.88 billion (USD 6.98 bilion) and growing to USD 9.2 billion in 2014. This includes tags, readers and software/services for RFID cards, labels, fobs and all other forms of RFID applications. The authors forecast a rise of the market to a value of USD 30.24 billion by 2014.
In retail, RFID sees a rapid growth for apparel tagging – that application alone demands 2.25 billion RFID labels in 2013. RFID, in the form of tickets used for transit, amounted to 600 million tags in 2013. The tagging of animals (pigs, sheep and pets) is now substantial as it becomes a legal requirement in many more countries and numbered 375 million tags in 2013.
A focus on China and Australasia, a total of 5.9 billion tags (4.8 billion) were sold in 2013. Most of that growth is from passive UHF RFID labels, with UHF tag sales overtaking HF and LF tag sales by volume in 2012, but the 2013 UHF tag sale will only reach 11 % of the value of HF tag sales.
