Freudenberg invested in nonwoven and seal production in Brazil

Freudenberg Nonwovens is one of the world’s largest producers of nonwovens, with 21 manufacturing and processing sites in 13 countries. 2012 the company employed almost 3000 people and reported sales of EUR 650 million. In 2013 a budget of BRR 40 million (approximately EUR 13.2 million) was earmarked for South America in view to innovations, capacity expansion and general process optimisation, among the Jacarel and Diadema sites in the Federal State of São Paulo

AFreudenberg Vliesstoffe_Jacareí Sao Paolo (1)ccording to Dr. Mohsen Sohi, speaker of the Freudenberg Group Board of Management, “Brazil is one of the Freudenbeg Group’s strategic growth markets where we would like to gain greater market share.”

Freudenberg Nonwovens will commission a new manufacturing plant for Technical Products and Hygiene market segments, underlining the significance of the South American region.  Juan Carlos Borchardt, Freudenberg’s Regional Representative for South America stated: “Thanks to the close cooperation with experts at Freudenberg’s headquarters in Weinheim (D), we will be able to manufacture even better specialist hygiene products in the future by using tried and tested nonwovens technology. This will strengthen the competitiveness as a globally active group.” The move will pave the way to harness further opportunities to grow profitable in niche markets of the hygiene market segment and enhance sales, also by expanding the product portfolio with special solutions, such as printed or especially light, cotton like nonwovens.

Freudenberg Group is present in the Brazilian market over more than 160 years and currently employs more than 1400 associates at eight sites. In addition to Freudenberg Sealing Technlogies, Chemical Specialties, Nonwovens, Filter Technologies as well as EagleBurgmann and Trelleborg Vibracustic joint ventures are represented domestically.

In addition, the Freudenberg Group is expanding its commitment to the automotive industry by commissioning a new production line for thermoplastic high performance components in Diadema, jointly with its Japanese Partner NOK Nippon Oil Seal Industry Co. Ltd.

Following the USA, China and Japan, Brazil forms one of the largest automotive market min the world. Experts expect an increase in the 2014 vehicle production of 12.0 % to 3.8 million manufactured vehicles. Over the last few weeks, several automotive manufacturers have announced their intention to build new assembly plan there, and to serve the higher demand Freudenberg Group reacts with the new production line catering to an even closer relationship to customers and prospect, not only in Brazil but also throughout South America.
