IAF and IFFTI are joining forces
IAF, the International Apparel Federation and IFFTI, the International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes are joining forces to help to connect business and education in the fashion sector, thus on January 29, 2014 a memorandum of cooperation between the two partners was signed in Tokyo at IFFTI’s 16th annual conference
IAF secretary general, Han Bekke stated: “The exchange of information should form a part of the solution of major challenges faced by the industry and Commodore Vijay Chaturvedy, IFFTI Secretary, added: “The linkage of IAF’s and IFFTI’s international networks potentially provide practical value for all of our members. IAF’s education committee of representatives from the industry is chaired by Souraya Bouwmans, dean of Amsterdam Fashion Institute, who is also member of the Executive Committee of IFFTI.
Both institutions agreed to work together very closely in IAF’s awards programme. IFFTI members will promote the participation in the IAF student award to graduating students. Such students may enter the competition with their graduation project in the categories, design, product, development and branding. The prize entails a half year full paid internship at a fashion company.
Further the two partners will join up to organise the IAF designer award IFTI members will invite their alumni to apply for the award and to nominate a designer who is not yet internationally known, but already with a domestic record and with a maximum of five years of professional experience. The winner of the IAF Designer Award will be bestowed with a fully paid visit to the IAF World Fashion Convention of next year where the winner will present the winning collection on the catwalk in presence of representatives of the industry and media.
IAF is the world’s leading federation for apparel manufacturers, their associations, apparel retailers and the supporting industry, now including apparel associations from nearly 60 countries representing over 200000 companies.
IFFTI is an international body comprising of leading international fashion universities and schools. It focuses on assisting its members in upgrading their programmes, brining about sharp professionalism in the structure and operation of the fashion industry in their respective countries. Presently IFFTI entails 45 institutions from 23 countries around the world.
