Swiss CAR study initiates the founding of a new branch Automotives within Swissmem
Switzerland contributes an impressive number of systems, modules and parts for the worldwide automotive industry. Over 300 companies are involved in this sector and they employ around 24000 employees generating proceeds of around CHF 9 billion
For the second time after 2008 the swiss CAR Center for Automotive Research of the ETH (Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland) has presented a study on November 20, 2013 to showcase the actual situation, trends, challenges and opportunities for that sector.
A major result is the need of a closer networking and collaboration among these enterprises. Today, the network is not yet established. Of the respondent companies 41 % have manifested an interest to establish a network to establish platforms for exchange and collaboration. The topics to be met by such platforms are technological trends, norms and standards as well as market information (statistics, prognosis). The platforms should also serve for R&D projects with universities and other companies.
Swissmem, the umbrella organisation of manufacturers of electrical and machinery, takes up these needs and will form a new technical group “Automotive” with tailor made platforms to entail the focus topics. The foundation of the new group is planned in 2014.
