SANITIZED bestowed with Swiss Technology Award as a “Sustainable Leader”
Swiss SANITIZED AG, a specialist in the lasting hygiene protection of textiles and polymers was bestowed with the Swiss Technology Award in the category “Sustainable Leader” for its new Sanitized® Pluma technology
The new technology is the first ever worldwide anti-adhesive hygiene treatment of textiles making use of mechanisms from medical engineering to inhibit odour causing bacteria.
SANITIZED has already produced pioneering achievements in the field of lasting hygiene function and material protection for textiles and polymers on multiple occasions. Its capacity for innovation has once again been demonstrated by the new Sanitzed® Pluma product. The members of the R&D department have investigated a medical engineering technology that can inhibit bacterial formation on prostheses and thus reduces the risk of infection for patients. Jointly with researchers from Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, the company has succeeded in adapting this mechanism of action from medical technology to hygiene treatments in textiles.
The decisive advantage of the new technology against previously applied technologies is the fact that inhibits even the bacterial colonisation of the textile surface.
The gist of the Sanitized® Pluma technology is based on a polymer film from an aqueous solution that forms on the textile in situ. The polymer coating fixes a microscopically thin film of water on the textile surface that acts as a barrier against bacterial colonisation. The bacteria float on this film can be eliminated by low temperature washing. This saves both energy and water and sustainably extends the life of these treated textiles.
Sanitized’s Innovation Manager, Dr. Heinz Katzenmeier stated: „With Sanitized® Pluma the company has succeeded in an effort to create a new milestone in textile finishing”. The new product is safe, well tolerated by the skin and environmentally sound in the application and handling of finished textiles.
The Swiss Technology Award is the leading prize in Swiss technology. It is initiated by the Swiss Economic Forum who promotes entrepreneurship, and the culture of innovation in Switzerland. The official award ceremony is scheduled for May 25, 2014. It is not only the award as such who is bestowed, but along goes an individual and tailor made package to support sale, marketing and communication, for instance with a video portrait and participation at important exhibition such as Hannover Messe (April 7 – 11, 2014) in Germany and Biotechnica (October 6- 8, 2015 with Switzerland as a partner country). The bestowed companies will heighten their profile with media and public and profit of valuable contacts to partners and potential customers. The price will be bestowed for the 25th time and is bestowed within the framework of Swiss Innovation Forum where at the latest congress (November 20, 2013) in Basle (CH) around 1000 decision makers from business, sciences, education and politics were taking part. Top speakers were Swiss Secretary of State Mauro Dell’Ambrogio, digital entrepreneur Jay S. Walker, Israel Chemicals-CEO Stefan Borgas and Berlin’s (D) mayor Klaus Wowereit. Switzerland defended 2013 successfully its position as the most innovative country in the world.
