Industrial Fabrics bestowed International Achievement Awards 2013

IFAI the Industrial Fabrics Association International announced the 2013 IAA International Achievement Awards for design excellence in speciality fabrics application at the occasion of the IFAI Specialty Fabrics Expo 20213 and Advanced Textiles Conference and Trade Show, on October 24, 2013 at the Orlando Convention Centre, Florida

IFAI received a total of 236 entries from 13 countries that were submitted for 29 categories. Winners were selected based on complexity, design, workmanship, uniqueness and function. Judges included industry experts, editors, architects, educators and design professionals chosen for their knowledge in a particular field of study or product area.

All entries received prominent recognition at the exposition and show, the largest specialty fabrics trade show in the Americas. Entrants receive additional publicity through coverage in IFAI magazines and press releases distributed to media professionals.

For more than six decades, IAA has recognized excellence in design and innovation, highlighting truly spectacular work in the specialty fabrics and Technical Textiles industry. The goal of IAA is to promote awareness of the specialty fabrics used in thousands of products and applications ranging in size and types.

IAA competition is sponsored by IFAI, a not-for-profit trade association, whose 1800 member companies represent the international specialty fabrics and Technical Textiles marketplace.

In the category Tensile Structures, under 600 m2 the Award of Excellence went to Carpas y Lonas El Carrusel SA de CV, Mexico City (MEX) for “Tenostructure for Fast Food Areea for University of Leon (MEX), AND THE Outstanding Achievement award was bestowed to Architen Landrell Associates, Chepstow (GB) for Chepstow Castle.

In the category Tensile Structures, 600 – 2300 m2 the Award of Excellence went to MakMax Australia, Eagle Farm, Queensland (AUS) for Souk Okaz Public Theatre. The Outstanding Achievement Award was bestowed to Birdair Inc, Amherst, N.Y. (USA) for Plaza Las Américas.

In the category Tensile Structures, More than 2300 m2 the Award of Excellence went to Taiyo Europe GmbH, Sauerlach (D) for Opera Lesna Sopot and the outstanding Achievement Award to Structureflex Ltd., Auckland (NZ) for Westlake Girls High School Sports Facility.

In the Category Frame Supported Structure the Award of Excellence went to Birdair Inc. Amherst, N.Y. (USA) for Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway (USA) and the Outstanding Achievement Award went to Beijing N&L Fabric Technology Co., Ltd. Beijing (PRC) for Wanzhou Stadium, Chongqing as well as to Birdair Inc., Amherst, NY. (USA) for McClain Athletic Centre.

The Award of Excellence in Air Structures went to Achiten Landrell Asociates, Chepstow (GB) for London 2012 Water Polo Venue.

In the category Commercial Awnings and Canopies, Less than 83 m2 the Award of Excellence went to SunMaster of Naples, Naples, Florida (USA) for Bike Route Oasis Pavilion. Outstanding Achievement Awards were bestowed to Queen City Awning, Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) for Mill Valley and Lawrence Fabric & Metal Structures Inc. St. Louis, Missouri (USA) for Cupples Building/Flying Saucer Restaurant.

In the category Commercial Awnings and canopies of more than 83 m2 the Award of Excellence went to J. Miller Canvas, Inc, Santa Ana, California (USA) for Sparks Building. The Outstanding Achievement Award was bestowed to BelAire, Hayward, California (USA) for Intuit Campus Centre, San José.

In the category of Residential Awnings and Canopies the Ward of Exellence winner is Shades (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Phuket (Thailand) for Seaview Patio Canopy. The Outstanding Achievement Awards went to Hoover Canvas Products, Fort Lauderdale, Florida (USA) for Palm Beach Residence and to Fresco Shades Ltd., Auckland (NZ) for Benning Canopy.

The Award of Excellence for Retractable Awnings and Canopies went to J. Miller Canvas, Inc., Santa Ana, California (USA) for UCSB. The Outstanding Achievement Awards were bestowed to Miami Awning Co., Miami, Florida (USA) for Singerman Residence and to Retractableawnings.com Inc., Miami Gardens, Florida (USA) for Retractable Rooftop Patio Cover Systems – Metro Park VI.

In the category Tensioned Awnings and Canopies the Award of Excellence went to Tension Structures, Eide Industries, Cerritos, California (USA) for Aquarium of the Pacific and the Outstanding Achievement Award went to Structurflex Ltd., Auckland (NZ) for Rydges Hotel Terrace Canopy.

The Award of Excellence for Free Standing Structures, less than 92 m2 was bestowed to Tension Structures, Cerritos, California (USA) for Francis Tuttle and the Outstanding Achievement Award went to Abacus Shade Structures, Emu Plains (AUS) for Freshwater Village Plaza.

In the category Free Standing structures more than 92 m2 the Award of Excellence went to Light Weight Structures, Maroochydore, BC Queensland (AUS) for East Cessnock Bowling Club and the Outstanding Achievement Award toi Dünn Arquitectura Ligera SA de CV Zapopan (MEX) for Parque La Jabonera.

The Award of Excellence in Exterior Shades and Screens went to J. Miller Canvas, Inc., Santa Ana, California (USA) for SLS Hotel and the Outstanding Achievement Award was received by Taiyo Kogyo Corp., Tokyo (J) for Pleats. I.

In the category of Shade Sails the Award of Excellence went to Dünn Arquitectura Ligera SA de CV, Zapopan (MEX) for DASSA and the Outstanding Achievement Award went to Fabritexcture, Kingscliff (AUS) for Cockburn Town Square, as well as to Lawrence Fabfic & Metal Structures Inc, St. Louis, Missouri both for Southwestern Illinois College and Clayton on The Park.

The category Multiple Modular Structures Award of Excellence went to Shades (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Phuket (Thailand) for Condominium Courtyard Printed Fabric Products.

The Award of Excellence for Fabric Graphics went to International Tension Structures, Fountain Hills, Arizona (USA) for Denny’s Neonopolis and the Outstanding Achievement Award went to Architen Landrell Associates, Chepstow (GB) for Desperados.

The Award of Excellence of Fabric Art went to Higtex GmbH, Bernau am Chiemsee (D) for ´Leviathan´ and the Outstanding Achievement Award to Architen Landrell Associates, Chepstow (GB) for The Apple.

Powerboat Exteriors Award of Excellence was granted to Afton Marina & Yacht Club, Afton, Minnesota (USA) of 410 Carver Sport Complete Bridge and Aft Enclosure, the Outstanding Achievement Award was bestowed to Bennett Custom Canvas Inc., Etobicoke, Ontario (USA) for Cobalt 360 as well as to Riverside Covers, Fort Meyers, Florida (USA) for Cockpit Shade Top with Rigid Enclosure.

The Award of Excellence for Sailboat Exterior went to Custom Marine Canvas, Noank, Connecticut (USA) for USCGC Eagle Mid Deck Awnings and the Outstanding Achievement Award was bestowed to Aussie Boat covers (Vic) Pty Ltd., Elwood Victoria (AUS) for Beneteau Oceanis.

The Award of Excellence in Marine Interior Upholstery went to David’s Custom Trimmers, Queensland (AUS) for Catamaran Settee and the one for Marine Exterior Upholstery to Canvas Innovations, Holland, Michigan (USA) for Not Just another Liberator.

The Award of Excellence in Private Tent Rental went to Mahaffey Fabric Structures, Memphis, Tennessee (USA) for Bijoux Parisians on Display and the Outstanding Achievement Award to Beachview Event Rental Inc., Woodbine, Georgia (USA) for Capitalising on the Perfect “Beachview”.

The Award of Excellence in Corporate Tent Rental was bestowed to Eventstar Structures Corp., Miami, Florida (USA) for Kentucky Derby 2013 as well as to ROEDER Zelt- und Veranstaltungsservice GmbH, Büdingen (D) for Kentucky Derby 2013 and the Outstanding Achievement Award went to Mahafeey Fabric Structures, Memphis, Tennessee (USA).

The Award of Excellence for Tent Manufacturing and Design went to Base Structures Ltd., Bristol (GB) for the London 2012 Games Shooting Ranges as well as to Fiesta Tents Ltd., Saint-Laurent, Quebec (CND) for Allergy Relief House Outstanding Achievement Awards to Losberger US LLC, Frederick, Maryland (USA) for Vintage Palas Theatre as well as to HTS-USA Hocker, Delray Beach, Florida (USA for America’s Cup.

The Award of Excellence for Interior Display went to Joe MacDonald/Urban A&O + Sonal Beri, Brooklyn, New York (USA) for American Competitiveness: What works. And the two Outstanding Achievement Awards went to Transformit, Gorham, Maine (USA) for GE Healthcare Projection Screen and Moss, Inc., Elk Grove Village, Illinois (USA) for Globe – California Academy of Sciences Earthquake Exhibit.

The Commercial Interiors Award of Excellence was received by J. Miller Canvas, Inc., Santa Ana, California (USA) for Bloomingdales as well as the Outstanding Achievement award for Hyundia Atlanta.

The Geosynthetic Projects Award of Excellence went to TenCate Geosynthetics, Pendergrass, Georgia (USA) for Embraport Container and Bulk Fuel Terminal – Santos (BR) and the Outstanding Achievement Award to ACE Geosynthetics, Taichung, Taiwan for Breakwater in UAE.

The Award of Excellence in Upholstery went to Buckminster upholstery, Falls City, Nebraska (USA) for 1890’s Turkish Couch and the Outstanding Achievement Award to Charman Motor Trimmers and Upholsterers Ltd., Napier (NZ) for Piper PA34.

Last, but not least, the Award of Excellence in Micellaneous was bestowed to Origin Tents Ltd., Motueka (NZ) for Building Consent / Yurt Project and the Outstanding Achievement Award to AR Industries, Fontana, California (USA) for ULA Booster Cover.
