ITA gets mechanical engineering’s didactics award
On October 26, 2013, ITA Institut für Textiltechnologie (Institute for Textile Technology) has been bestowed, jointly with six other chairs of totally 48 of the RWTH Aachen, with the first time ever faculty for mechanical engineering’s didactics award (teaching prize)
The official ceremony took place at Eurogress Aachen, and Dr. Dieter Veit, ITA’s academic director, accepted the award on behalf of Prof. Thomas Gries and himself. It is not for the first time that ITA was honoured for its teaching capabilities, but the third time in the ongoing year. Dr. Veit was awarded the title “RWTH Lecturer” in June for his excellent science and research activities. Prof. Thomas Gries and Jaqueline Lemm (both ITA), as well as Prof. Roger Häussling from the IfS Institute of Sociology, were bestowed with the first prize in teaching by RWTH Aachen University. The prize was granted for the creation of the seminar “Interdisciplinary for Sociology in Organisations”, destined to bridge humanity and engineering sciences with the aim to couple R&D with a social view point in order that technologies are accepted more easily.
All students were invited to evaluate the quality of their faculty’s teaching staff. The best elected lecturers won each EUR 3000 in cash. Prof. Gries commented: “Now that we have won all prizes bestowed at RWTH Aachen University for didactic achievements, we feel well prepared for new research projects, and hopefully for many new students!”
ITA’s core competences are the development of textile machinery and components, high performance fibre materials, manufacturing technologies and comprehensive process chains, as well as the development of innovative textile based products for mo9bility, civil engineering, living, energy and health. The focus in research is in material and energy efficiency, functional integration and integrated production technologies. SME’s are able to access the 2012 opened Centre of High Performance Fibre Material where such companies are offered affordable scientific research through Access to the latest technical infrastructures and technologies.
ITA offers research and development projects or frame contracts, also research in the context of public funded projects (state, federal, EU), advanced training and workshops with textile subjects in-house or at ITA, creative workshops to find new concepts and ideas, as well as patent and literature surveys. Research services are offered and handled in cooperation with 3T TextilTechnlogieTransfer GmbH.
Courses are given in mechanical engineering (focused on textile engineering), industrial engineering with a focus on textile engineering and for educators in technical education for professional schools. An opportunity to graduate (Dr.-Ing.) is also available.
