Second round of FTA negotiation between EU and Thailand
The second round to forge a FTA Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Thailand is scheduled for September 16 – 20, 2013 in Thailand
During the first round of discussions in May in Brussels (B) was on the topics goods, rules of origin , services and investment, public procurement, competition, intellectual property, trade remedies, and trade and sustainable development.
Trade between the EU and Thailand has reached nearly EUR 32 billion in 2012.
In 2010 EU good imports from Thailand reached EUR 17.3 billion, in 2011 the increased to EUR 17.5 billion, but in 2012 they decreased to EUR 16.9 billion. EU exports to Thailand amounted to EUR 10.0 billion in 2010, 2011 they increased to EUR 11.9 billion and in 2012 EUR 14.7 billion.
Thailand enjoys trade preference with the EU under the Generalised scheme of Preference. The Asian country is one of the 10 members of ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The negotiations are conducted under the framework of ASEAN to ensure an effective enviro0nment for trade and investment relations. In February already a new Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Thailand was initiated.
