America is the land for contests, one of these is the Pillsbury Bake-Off® contest that was started in 1949 and the first USD one million grand prize was bestowed in 1996. In the 45th contest in 2012, Christina Verrelli of Devon, Pennsylvania receive this prize for their Pumkin Ravioli with Salted Caramel Whipped Cream recipe

UnbenanntaprFor the iconic Pillsbury Bak-Off® contest 2013 the company partnered with fashion designer Whitney Port to whip up a modern look for the nation’s premiere cooking competition: Port created the official contest apron. Not just simply an apron, of course, but a combination of fashion and function. Whitney Port launched – after a career on TV MTV reality hit show The Hills. She launched her own spin-off The City in 2008, time where she started her own fashion line “Whitney Eve”. Eclectic yet flirty, Whitney Eve is a contemporary women’s collection featuring an array of silhouettes from feminine convertible party dresses to charming menswear inspired bodies that are complimented with alluring colours and exclusive custom prints. She was growing up in Los Angeles and lived in Manhattan. This is why she blends the laid-back vibe of California with the sophistication and edge of New York City life. The line meanwhile extends to accessories and jewellery Bits & Bobs in 2012. Whitney Eve’s creations are sold at select boutiques in the U.S. and international retailers.

The finalists will compete in style at the contest finals from November 10 -12, 2013 at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Port commented: “Like fashion and design, which are my creative outlets, many people express their creativity through cooking. I am honoured and excited to partner with the contest to celebrate the top 100 home cooks who channelled their creative juices to develop such unique and original recipes”.

Pillsbury fans were given the opportunity to help inspire this year’s official contest apron design by pinning their favourite images to Pillsbury’s Pinterest page, creating a fan inspired mood port for Whitney Port. The result is a winning look that combined Port’s personal fashion sense with the artistic visions of PiIlsbury fans from across America. Contest Manager Shera Balgobin stated: “The Bake-Off® contest celebrates creativity and originality, both of which boldly come across in Whitney’s apron design. Her fresh take on the classic apron will ensure th contest’s 100 finalists are cooking in style.

The contest is divided into three recipe categories with separate entry periods. Fans can vote for their favourite recipes from the second contest category “Simple Sweet and Starters”. They will also determine which category finalists will have the chance to wear the apron when competing for the grand prize. The vote for the third and final category “Quick Rise and Shine Breakfasts” and the submitting of recipes for this category is from July 4 to August 8, 2013 and the finalist voting will take place September 12 -26, 2013.
