VDMA/Walter Reiners Foundation bestowed three junior engineers

Energy efficiency and lightweight constructions are actually at the forefront for junior engineers and the emphases of promotion, diploma and project studies

WRS Preisverleihung 2013In the framework Techtextil in Frankfurt, Germany, the Walter Reiners Foundation of the &Textile Machinery Industry under the chairmanship of Peter D. Dornier, chairman of Lindauer Dornier and the foundation was bestowing three successful junior engineers and by delivering a speech. He outlined that the textile machinery is the starting point of intelligent applications in the fields of sport, automotive, aviation and space industry, as well in construction and engineering.  Fibre reinforced materials, such as composites, exert a special fascination in these sectors, proving particularly useful where reduction of weight is required, for example in motor cars and aircrafts. Composites make a major contribution to reduce petrol and kerosene consumption and thus are real examples for sustainability.

The prize in the category dissertation (EUR 5000) was awarded at the ceremony to Dr. Heiko Schneuit of RWTH Aachen (D). In his thesis he developed solutions which considerably increase the energy efficiency of weaving machines.  In the category diploma Lars Appel of RWTH Aachen received the prize of EUR 3000. The procedure presented in his diploma work helps to further ratiojnalise the production of composites. Sebastian Schneider of TU Dresden (D) performed the best student research work and was bestowed with EUR 2000. His study explains creative concepts to optimise material flow during production of composite components and represents another step forward to a substantial automation of composite manufacturing.
