High calibre US retail delegation was visiting Chinese Canton Fair
In the American retail sector there are operation around 3.6 million companies, offering jobs for 42 million people and the annual sales generated amount to US 2.5 trillion. The world’s largest retail Association NRF America’s National Retail Federation visited Canton Fair in May, trying to accentuate trade relations to Chinese suppliers
Mathew Shay, President and CEO of NRF stated that he came to learn from the fair, predicting that bilateral trade between China and the U.S. would continue to grow, because there is a great potential for further development. In 1979 the Sino American trade totalled USD 2.45 billion, in 2012 the figure was USD 487.4 billion. The two nations are now the second largest trading partners for one another.
It has to be added that the NRF and the China Foreign Trade Centre enjoy a cooperative partnership, and this allows NRF to present U.S. retail insights at the Canton Fair, while promoting Canton Fair at the BIG Show, NRF’s largest convention in New York, drawing nearly 30000 attendees from around the world. The next convention will take place from January 12 to 15, 2014.
American attendance at the Canton Fair is perennially strong, with the event typically drawing around 10000 attendees from the U.S. The fair also attracts many of the largest retailers, in 2012 66 of the world’s largest 250 retailers attended the fair, among six of the top ten.
The next Canton Fair will take place in three phases starting October 15, 2013, and in its third phase from Oct. 31 – November 4, 2013 it will showcase also textiles, garments and shoes.
