As we all know, Turkey’s knitting industry is a provider of high quality and quick response for the European fashion market, however challenged by fierce competition from China and other Asian markets. It becomes important that Turkey sheds its image of a manufacturing base only and to attract more business by acquiring the capability for its own product planning and proposals as a key to its own future. Turkey is actually reporting rapid growth as an exporter and its economy is on an uptrend. A good performing economy offers the dilemma of its textile industry to increase wages, but in such a labour intensive industry it is difficult to remain competitive. Shima Seiki states that “its WholeGarment® technology is offering an alternative to labour intensive manufacturing, and by creating unprecedented knitwear with new forms of added value”.
