Good Design in action
Italian SPD Scuola Politecnico di Design (founded in 1958) presented during the Milan Design Week 2013 (April 9 – 14, 2013) selected academic work from its postgraduate programmes in the Ventura Lambrate Fuorisalone, 2013 edition in Milan and under the motto “Call to Action”
The selected works in industrial, interior, transportation and car, visual, web and multimedia design were presented on the school’s premises in the heart of Ventura Lambrate fuorisalone. Every project entailed a call to action, intercept waves of interest, to find its own audience. Some of the ingredients were love, beauty, craft skills, smart insights into new habits and lifestyle. The projects comprised projects from car design to editorial, from advertising to furniture design. It is the aim of the school to allow workshop practice, an experimental format open to the relationship with professionals, institutions and the private sector, from Ogilvy On to Volkswagen Group Design, from Alias to Adidas. The exhibited projects are the result of the school’s research attitude, combined with its professional orientation and with the benefit of a cross-cultural context.
The installation covered various spaces of the school without hiding their original functions. Desks, chairs and all equipments were not removed, the installation was juxtaposed with the everyday appearance of the school as an overlay revealing both the process and the output of the students’ creative work, all with the aim to trigger a reaction and encourage people to engage these in a long lasting dialogue with good design.
