IAF founder passed away

IAF International Apparel Federation has to face the unexpected death on April 14, 2013 of its only living founder and Honorary Lifetime President Thomas Roboz

Together with Joachim Hoffman (Europe) and Komataro Kondo (J) the late Thomas Roboz founded IAF in 1972 in Williamsburg (USA), realising the dream of three industrialists to bring together apparel manufacturers from all over the world. Acting IAF President Harry van Dalfsen states: “Building bridges between continents by promoting common business interests, by encouraging best practice and supporting apparel manufacturers and marketers worldwide, is a mission, IAF still embraces”.

Only last year, Thomas Roboz was honoured with the IAF Golden Award for great services to the international apparel industry. Even when he left the IAF Board Roboz continued to show great interest in IAF’s further developments and his wise comments and suggestions from the sideline were greatly appreciated, expressed Van Dalfsen on behalf of the IAF Board, accompanied by the condoleances to the wife and family of Thomas Roboz.

Over more than forty years IAF became the world’s leading federation for apparel manufacturers, their associations, and the supporting industry. The actual IAF membership rooster entails apparel associations from more than 40 countries representing over 150000 companies who provide products and services to the apparel industry and employing 20 million persons. Associate members of IAF represent prominent companies, institutes of technology, business services, retailing, logistics, culture and education.


Patrick Byrne is again at the helm of US Overstock

After a medical leave of absence since February 2013 Patrick Byrne resumes his duties at US Overstock, a discount retailer based in Salt Lake City, Utah (USA) selling a broad range of products including furniture, rugs, bedding, electronics, clothing, jewellery and cars

Before his temporary leave, Byrne, the founder of the company, installed Jonathan Johnson, formerly president as acting CEO and he will also keep his executive functions after the return of Byrne and in addition he has been nominated to the Board of Directors and this has to be confirmed at  company’s annual stockholders’ meeting in coming May, and if so, he will be nominated executive vice chairman of the Board.
