On April 3, 1973 barcode was born as an industrial standard. At that time, leading American grocery companies decided for a uniform standard to declare their products, thus a milestone was set
Today around five billion of products are scanned daily with barcode around the globe. Swiss GS1 identification solutions were made for around two million companies laying the grounds for their business processes across geographical and cultural frontiers and along the value chain. GS1 is enhancing the collaboration between manufacturers, trade and service providers.
The barcode is also feeding the requirements of consumers speeding-up waiting lines at the cashier desk. It serves also stock control as each departing item is immediately registered by the system. This helps the consumer to find always the products he is looking for and thus shopping is more pleasant and time saving.
