Indian Pearl Academy students are the winners of “The Debut”

India’s Pearl Academy students from Chennai and Delhi Campus won the seventh edition of Will Lifestyle’s “The Debut”

Mridul Jacob (final year student of Pearl Academy, Chennai) was bestowed with the Title Trophy and Anubha Jain (final year student of Pearl Academy in New Delhi) received the Special Jury Award. Four out of the 14 finalists, including the winners, were from Pearl Academy. At the grand finale held in New Delhi, Deveesha Batra and Sanjana Jain (finalists and also from Pearl Academy) showcased their collections.

“The Debut” is an extension of Wills Lifestyle’s association with Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week and is a unique initiative to recognise India’s fresh talent in fashion design. Students from other eminent Indian fashion schools, such as National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), National institute of Design (NID), Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT, Amity School, Noida and J.D. Institute of Fashion Technology competed with each other at the regional round held at Kolkata, Bangaluru and Mumbai and finally, the top fourteen made it to the grand finale at New Delhi. The jury comprised of eminent designers examined creativity, technicality and commercial viability of the design collections. The winner’s collection by Mridul was under the motto “Saddle up” and was based on the theme of men’s work wear, especially catering to the needs of men who cycle to work in Milan (I), the ensembles have been tailored with fabrics that assist cycling during winter time. Anubha’s creations were based on the motto “Denim Revolution” and were inspired from the young, rebellious and dynamic girls of today’s world, thus the collection aimed the younger generation of the society.

Finalist Deveesha Batra’s “M2” collection was inspired from the evergreen musical icons Michael Jackson and Madonna and Sanjana Jain’s creation were spreading sunshine and exuding energy as they were inspired from the hippy culture and named “Summer of Love 1967”.

The official ceremony has taken place during the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in March 2013.

The Academy organised also on March 18 the Annual Fest Pearl Utsav under the new motto “Synesthesia 2013 – Battle of the Bands” at Sirifort Auditorium, New Delhi, with the participation of over 30 bands competing for the final round and 2000 students from over 30 colleges attended the fest.
