American Kemet Corporation, Greenville, S.C., according to inside information a leading manufacturer of tantalum, ceramic, aluminium, film, paper and electrolytic capacitors is loaunching a new 75 volt product extension for the T550 Polymer Hermetic Seal (PHS) series of tantalum through-hole capacitors

Kemet is prepared to support present and future demand for this high performance tantalum capacitor offering significant advantages over existing competing technologies. PHS offers the highest total capacitance at low temperatures and high frequencies, surpassing wet tantalum performance and rendering it the most economical high power solution available, specifies Dr. Philip Lessner, the company’s Senior Vice President, Chief Technology and Marketing Officer. In addition, solid internal construction drastically improves shock and vibration capability, all within an approximately 25 % lighter package than equivalent wet tantalum capacitor. The new product hs a proven reliability which was confirmed by 10000 hours of life test at rated voltage and 85° C without any parametric or catastrophic failures. The T550 PHS Series products are ideal for use in high voltage power management applications such as buck boost converters, filtering, hold-up capacitors, and other high ripple current applications. Typical markets include alternative energy, industrial/lighting, telecommunications, defence and aerospace, as well as lower total cost of ownership versus wet tantalum and it complements Kemet’s T540, T541 and T543 KO COTS Series.
