Rieter bestowed with Swiss Energy Award
The Swiss Federal Office of Energy bestowed Rieter Machine Works Ltd. with the Swiss Energy Prize “Watt d’Or” (golden Watt) and for the suction tube for the ring spinning machine
Watt d’or is a seal of quality for energy efficiency and is bestowed for excellent energy projects, plausible concepts and outstanding innovations. Totally 74 applications were submitted. Rieter’s project impressed the jury to the extent that a special award for Rieter was initiated under the newly created category “Energy Technologies – special award Export” taking into account that Rieter’s products are mainly exported.
We all know that Rieter has focused new developments on energy saving for decades because energy efficiency does not only help the environment but saves also the cost for yarn production. And the numerous Rieter installations worldwide are active proof of these stated facts.
The new suction tube development for the ring spinning machine “Suction tube ECOrised” is only a small part but with a marked effect. On long ring spinning machines with more than 1600 spindles installed there are energy savings in the range of up to 10 %, and we are aware of the fact that the ring spinning machine is responsible for 60 % of the plant’s energy consumption, it is fair to say that 10 % saving is considerable when running a commercially effective plant.
The official bestowing of the award in presence of hundreds of representatives from the energy industry and media attended the official ceremony. The Rieter team from the department of “Basic Development” in the ring spinning sector accepted the prize obviously with great pride. Following the presentation, many participants admired this new Rieter achievement and discussed the project with Rieter’s development team.
