Thai Acrylic Fibre Co. Ltd (TAF) – belonging to the Aditya Birla Group – and Swiss SANTIZED AG have concluded a co-branding agreement by a licensing program for AmicorTM fibres. During Heimtextil in Frankfurt (D) (January 9 – 12, 2013) Amicor (Hall 8, Booth G35) will unveil its new Biocidals Product Directive (BPD) on compliant fibres and yarns under the slogan “Breathe easily and relax”.

SANPR007a_915102_tnThe new alliance covers the co-branding of future product developments using Amicor fibres and yarns combined with the Sanitized® hygiene function.

The Amicor anti-bacterial and anti-fungal intelligent fibre has been originally developed by Courtaulds/Acordis (GB) in 1998. The technology was specifically designed to incorporate the functional antimicrobial additive into the core of the fibre. The additive is added to the fibre polymer before spinning by providing a unique fibre structure rather than a surface coating. When Amicor fibre is used at the recommended blend level, it ensures durable and effective protection of the entire fabric.

The new agreement will allow to built-in – according to in-house information – the world leading Sanitized antimicrobial function to all Amicor fibres. Through this process Amicor fibres and yarns achieve protection, comfort and freshness associated with the Sanitized Quality Seal for a wide range of fabrics and garments. Applications entail mattresses and bedding, carpets and soft furnishings, hospital and healthcare uniforms, innerwear and sportswear, socks, towels and wipes.

Since it is a non-topical application, there is a minimal loss of the hygiene function additive to the environment during manufacturing, as well as during yarn and fabric processing, dyeing and finishing and in final consumer use and laundering. In addition to BPD compliance, Armicor fibres feature OEKO-Tex Class 1 certification.

The new alliance is destined to strengthen the product offering in addition to open up new markets. Urs Stalder CEO of SANITIZED AG states: “From a geographical perspective, each company offers market opportunities through their strong and complimentary market presence”.
