14 million plastic bottles recycled and transformed into fibre and clothing
In the first year of its existence Dallas based Haggar Clothing Co. created and sold LK life Khaki products based upon recycled plastic bottles and transformed into fibre by Unifi, Inc, a diversified producer and processor of multi-filament polyester and nylon textured yarns and related raw materials
LK Life Khaki pants are made with an innovative blend of cotton and REPREVE® fibres. REPREVE is an essential fabric ingredient that contains recycled materials, including plastic bottles. Each pan contains the equivalent of seven recycled plastic bottles, making Haggar the first menswear brand to bring sustainable options to the mainstream market.
According to Michael Stitt, CEO of Haggar the company aimed to reach a younger consumer with the creation of LK Life Khaki line to fit his lifestyle with the added benefit of being eco-friendly. We get not only his attention, but also a larger share of his closet, which is reflective of the significant growth trend that we are experiencing within this brand.
The LK Life Khaki collection was designed to change the way men buy khakis and the line features an array of fits, including slim, relaxed and straight and designed for multiple wearing occasions. Men have shown that they appreciate how these pants can take them from work to a barbeque, a wedding, or even a job interview. The line is available in more than 2200 locations, including department stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, as well as online.
Other key Unifi brands include, but are not limited to AIO® all in all one performance yarns, SORBTEK®, A.M.Y.R ®, MYNK ® UV, REPREVE ®, REFLEXX ®, MICROVISTA ® and SATURA ®. Unifi’s yarns and brands are readily found in home furnishings, apparel, leg wear and sewing thread, as well as industrial, automotive, military, and medical applications.
