EU in-depth investigation on combining Munksjö and part of Ahlstrom

TextileFuture has reported on the intension of Finnish Ahlstrom to divest part of its business (Label and Processing business) and combine it with Munksjö and the EU Merger Commission opened formally – after a first phase of investigation – on December 7, 2012 an in-depth investigation on the proposed deal

The ignition of the second stage of investigation is on abrasive backings and pore-impregnated décor paper. The EU Merger Commission has now 90 working days until April 29, 2013 to take a final decision on whether the combination would significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it. It means also that the majority of the deal passed the first EU stage.

The investigation probably crosses plans to close the first part of the deal at the end of the first quarter of 2013 and it will probably take only effect in the second quarter of 2013.
