American Wal-Mart with best ever Black Friday business
The Black Friday in America is usually the day where retailers of all kind are selling actual goods at lowest prices and during unusual store hours. Wal-Mart topped this with an opening at 8.00 P.M. , 10:00 P.M. and at 5. A.M. on Thanksgiving Day, usually the time spent in family circles. A large group of employees protested against this call and threatened not to follow and at the same time they started to protest against low pay that is customary at the company. The company declared it will sanction those employees not meeting the call
The decision to have three different events at the mentioned time schedule and at the occasion of Black Friday has been paying off for Wal-Mart. There were countrywide 1.3 million associates on call to prepare and execute the Black Friday plans to give customers a great start to their Christmas shopping season and there were around 22 million customers flocking to Wal-Mart locations. During the high traffic period from 8:00 P.M. to midnight Wal-Mart processed nearly 10 million cash register transactions and almost 5000 items per second.
At the first even at 8:00 P.M. customers filled their shopping carts with gaming consoles, video games, DVDs, Furbys, fashion dolls, board games and Crock pots. The 10:00 P.M. event was dedicated to electronics, including big-screen TVs, tablets, laptops and digital cameras and customers got excited about Wal-Mart’s “guaranteed “ items, and the turnout for the iPad 2, Emerson 32” LCD TV and LG Blu-ray player has been outstanding.
Since the events began, Wal-Mart sold more than 1.8 million towels, 1.3 million television sets, 1.3 million dolls and 250000 bicycles.
The protests were small, only 26 protests occurred at the stores and many of them did not include any Wal-Mart associates. The company did not experience the walk-offs promised by the union UFCW and less than 50 associates participated in the protest nationwide, about the same number missing their scheduled shift as last year.
Wal-Mart associates receive a 10 % discount on general merchandise bought at Wal-Mart stores all year long and earlier this holiday season the company reward associates with a special holiday discount of 10 % off most food items between November 9 and it is lasting to January 1 to make the holidays for its employees and their families even more special. To recognise those associates who helped serve customers during its Black Friday evens, the company is providing an additional 10 % discount on an entire basket of goods and they will also receive holiday pay. Each week, more than 200 million customers and members visit Wal-Mart’s 10400 stores under 69 banners in 27 countries and e-commerce websites in 10 countries. In the fiscal year 2012 Wal-Mart’s sales r4eached around USD 444 billion and the company employs more than 2.2 million people worldwide.
