Rodeo Drive Walk of Style® has a new name plaque

Not all people, being famous are bestowed with an award during their life time and the legendary editor and fashion icon Diana Vreeland was honoured posthumous on September 10, 2012

The Rodeo Drive Committee and the City of Beverly Hills inducted Diana Vreeland into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style® in Berverly Hills (USA) on the Via Rodeo at Two Rodeo Drive. The event took place after the release of the Samuel Goldwyn Films and EPIX film Diana Vreeland: The Eye has to travel. The award was inaugurated in 2003 and honours style legends for their contributions to the worlds of fashion and entertainment.

Diana Vreeland was celebrated for her impact on fashion from the 1930’s to the 1980’s and she became the 19th recipient of the award and received a bronze plaque featuring her signature and her quote “You got to have style. It helps you get down the stairs. It helps you to get up in the morning. It’s a way of life. Without it you are nobody”.

The plaque will be permanently embedded on Rodeo Drive’s sidewalk and was unveiled b y her son Tim Vreeland and Lisa Immordino Vreeland, producer and director of the stated film to be officially released on September 21, 2012. It is an intimate portrait and vibrant celebration of an enduring icon whose influence impacted the worlds of fashion, beauty, art, publishing and culture forever.

Diana Vreeland reigned 50 years as the “Empress of Fashion”. She was launching Twiggy, advised Jackie Onassis and coined some of fashion’s most eloquent proverbs such as “the bikini is the biggest thing since the atom bomb”. She was the fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar where she worked for 25 years before she became editor-in-chief of Vogue followed by a remarkable stint at the Met’s Costume Institute in New York where she helped to popularise its historical collections.

She shares the honour to be inducted into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style® with other 18 personalities: Missoni, Iman, Fred Hayman, Pricess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco, Cartier, Valentino Garavani, Manolo Blahnik, Gianni and Donatella Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, Edith Head, James Acheson, Milena Canonero, Herb Ritts, Mario Testino and Tom Ford.
