World class isononanol plant project in China
German Chemical giant BASF and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen their cooperation by jointly exploring the possibility of building a world scale isonomanol (INA) plant in Moaming, China
The final scope of the investment will be determined after the execution of a joint feasibility study to be finalised by the end of 2012. The two parties will evaluate the technical, commercial and economic viability of jointly owning and operating a world class facility under a 50-50 joint venture agreement. The MoU was signed on July 30, 2012 by Dr. Albert Heuser, President of BASF Asia Pacific and Dr. Yu Xizhi, President of SINOPEC Corp. Maoming Company (PRC).
INA is the feedstock for the production of the next generation of plasticisers, for instance diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and non-phthalate plasticiser Hexamoll®DINCH®. DNP is widely used as a plasticiser in industrial applications such as automotive, wires, cables, flooring, building and construction while Hexmaoll®DINCH® is the plasticiser of choice for sensitive applications.
BASF and Sinopec already operate BASF-YPC Co. Ltd. as a 50-50 joint venture in Nanjing (PRC) and is one of China’s largest petrochemical sustainable joint venture and the site is producing a wide range of high quality chemicals for the rapidly growing Chinese market.
