Swiss Syngenta with higher sales, operating and net income

Swiss internationally operating Syngenta (crop science and seeds) reports higher sales, operating and net income for the first half of 2012 as against the same period in 2011

Sales increased by 7 % to USD 8265 (7702) million and in constant exchange rates resulted 10 % plus. The operating income was up from USD 1830 to USD 1839 million and net income from USD 1427 to USD 1500 million or plus 5 %. EBITDA increased by 6 % or from USD 2149 to USD 2268 million, in constant currencies a plus of 15 % would have resulted.

The most performing geographical areas were Europe, Africa & Middle East with an actual growth rate of 3 % (9 % in constant currencies) or from USD 2924 million to USD 3008 million, followed by North America (plus 24 %) or from USD 2251 million to USD 1781 million, then Latin America with an increase of 1 % (2%) or from USD 1032 million to USD 1043 million and then Asia Pacific with a decline of 3 % (-1 %) or from USD 1026 million to USD 997 million. In total volume was up 7 % and 4 % in value. Lawn and Garden accounted for USD 436 million or minus 5 % and Crop Protection increased by 5 % (8%) or from USD 5383 million to USD 5674 million. The largest segments are selective herbicides with an increase of 10 % or from USD 1747 million to USD 1922 million and Fungicides (+ 3 % in constant currencies) increased slightly from USD 1729 million to USD 1732 million, followed by insecticides, non-selective herbicides and seed care.
