Surprising positive results for special polymer and chemicals manufacturer

The half year results of Swiss EMS (Chemicals and Engineering) are encouraging despite the more and more difficult environment

Delivering special polymer and adhesives to key global industrial sectors such as automotives, optical branches and the electronic industry (for IPhones and Smart Phones) seem to pay off for Swiss EMS, since turnover in the first half year of 2012 (versus the same period of 2011) increased by 4 % (in local currencies by 5.6 %) to CHF 904 (CHF 870) million and operating profit increased by 6.9 % (1.2 %) or reaches 18.5 % (18.0 %) of total turnover. The high performance polymer business contributed CHF 754 (CHF 712) million or plus 5.8 (5.6 %) and specialty chemicals CHF 150 (CHF 157) million or minus 4.4 % to total proceeds. Polymers hat an EBIT-margin of 18.4 (17.9) % and specialty chemicals of 19.0 (18.4 %). The company’s management is slightly increasing its estimation for the total year and thus topping the 2011 record turnover and profit. It has to be added that these results will be reached by opening up new markets outside of Europe and the business outside of Europe amounts actually to 45 % of proceeds.
