Chinese Oerlikon headquarters inaugurated
Today the new Shanghai building has been officially inaugurated and will serve as global headquarters of Oerlikon Textile being at the same time the largest segment of the Swiss multinational high-tech group Oerlikon
The headquarters were relocated to Shanghai because China became the most important market for Oerlikon Textile and innovations created in China will be rolled out to other important markets. Oerlikon Textile it is headed by Clement Woon. By the end of 2012 40 % of the senior management will be based in Shanghai. Asia was responsible for 49 % of Oerlikon’s total sales and Chinese sales were up 22 % in the first quarter of 2012 as compared to the first quarter of 2011.
Oerlikon’s presence in China dates back to the 1960s and the largest production facility exists at Suzhou since 2005. Oerlikon Coating’s opened two new coating centres in 2011 in Jinan and Chongqing bringing the total up to nine sites including the recent capacity tripling at the Suzhou site. In 2012 Oerlikon Drive Systems started production at its first factory in Suzhou and Oerlikon Vacuum boosted capacity at its production site in Tianjin by around 30 %. In total Oerlikon employs around 2500 people in China. Oerlikon brings in step by step engineering know how and is also developing China as a source of new technologies to benefit its global business.
Oerlikon’s global CEO. Michael Buscher stated at the opening of the new headquarters in Shanghai: “there is still a huge potential in the Chinese market not yet developed and the new headquarters gives us an additional push to take advantage of this very significant opportunity”.
