The innovative supercenters grew into a real wordlwide retail phenomenon and Hendrik and Fred Meijer were the pioneers for the one stop shopping concept. Today the stores offer fresh produce, meat departments, pharmacies, electronics departments, garden centers and apparel offerings. During the last few years Meijers – Hank Mejer is the actual Co-Chairman and Doug Meijer Chairman – the company has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in new and remodeled stores, in the extension of distribution facilities and new technology, including Apps such as “Find-it App” and Mperks digital coupon program all with the aim to assist customers to save money.

The 50th anniversary will be a customer appreciation picnic hosted at the first supercenter location in Grand Rapids on June 16, 2012. But it is not the same historic store since it was remodeled and replaced and re-opened in August 2010.

It is noteworthy to state that Meijer donates each year more than six percent of its net profit back to the communities it serves through a variety of charitable partnerships!
