New Egyptian textile/leather import regulations

New Egyptian textile/leather import regulations

Since April 1, 2012 textile products, yarns and fabrics used in textile products including apparel, home textile furnishings and carpets as well as natural and synthetic leather, shoes and their parts and cases require an inspection certificate issued for each shipment by an accredited inspection company.

Without an inspection certificate those goods will not enter Egypt. The certificate has to specify quantity, value, country of origin, name and address of the manufacturer, licensed trademarks, importer name and test results from an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory showing compliance with the relevant Egyptian Standards (or technically equivalent international standards). The inspection company accredited under ISO 17020 by a local accreditation body recognized by an internationally accreditation cooperation, like ILAC, IAAC, APLAC, EA, ARAC or AFRAC.
