Climatic protection offers opportunities and challenges
German ITRS Industrieverband Technische Textilien – Rolladen – Sonnenschutz e.V. (Industrial Association of Technical Textiles, Screens and Sun Protection) and its President Bernd Seybold welcomed on May 4 Karl-Heinz Florenz, Member of the European Parliament and Peter Winters of the European umbrella association “European Solar-Shading Organization” to join a panel discussion on climatic protection and the opportunities for SME in the relevant fields. The event took place in Krefeld (D) at Verseida-Indutex GmbH and an ITRS member.
The focus of the discussion was on EU and the German market and the existing and future opportunities and challenges. A challenge is certainly the new German law in view to renewable energies because of its sole existence in Europe it hampers the competitiveness of manufacturers of technical fabrics (e.g. for tents, covers, marquise and digital printing), because such processes are of high energy use.
Some ITRS members were also dissatisfied with the application and handling of REACH, the European Chemical Law, and they were demanding adaption measures – Karl-Heinz Florenz is willing to support these on the political level – because there are still non-European textile manufacturers having less strict laws to fulfil, and therefore they unfairly compete with European textile producers.
