New EU regulation on fibre content and textile labelling

EU regulation 1007/2011 of the European Parliament and the Council of September 27, 2011 on textile fibre names and related labelling will come into force on May 8, 2012 and will replace Directives 2008/121/EC on textile names and 96/73/EC on certain methods for quantitative analysis of ternary fibre mixtures.

The new regulation requires information regarding the composition of textile products and based upon harmonised fibre names and uniform checking methods to analyse the composition of textile products. It entails all products containing a t least 80% by weight of textile fibres, including raw, semi-worked, worked, semi-manufactured, semi-made, mad-up products however there is also a list of exceptions such as disposable articles and flags.
