Fashion Weeks calendar quarrel

Fashion Weeks agenda is set for years and they take place twice a year. Each Fashion Week, might it be in New York, London, Paris and Milan are having actually a problem among themselves because New York had to move the date in 2012 because of an American Holiday.

New York was forced to change the date and Milan was not happy and went ahead to set its own date in a manner that it crisscrossed with the event in New York and London. The result was obviously a turbulence and various prominent designers threatened to boycott Milan under the impression that the Italian organisers would not pay enough attention to London’s fashion week.

Following was that Diane von Fürstenberg, President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), proposed a total revision of all the agendas in order to assist Milan however under one condition that Milan would accept the business as usual for New York’s fashion week meaning to take place every second Thursday in September and February. Seemingly Milan accepted that exceptionally in 2012 the fashion week of New York would take place on September 6 and in 2013 regain the old rhythm as indicated.

All ended in a memorandum of understanding whereas the last day 2013 for New York should be September 18th and London would be accorded an additional day on September 17th in 2014 to present the men’s lines. In consequence Milan’s Fashion Week will take place as usual on Wednesday October 2nd, 2013 and Wednesday October 1st in 2014. The original agenda of London before the memorandum, including the additional day for men’s fashion would have collided with the start of Milan’s Fashion Week. To date there is no guarantee that the Management of New York’s Fashion week will grant this additional day to Milan. At least the New York date is not yet changed on the website! In order that you don’t panic, I abstain from indicating all the links leading to these Fashion Weeks! All confused or all clear? Well, at the end of the day, it’s all about fashion!
