Swiss based specialty chemicals company Clariant has opened today its new Singapore headquarters for South East Asia & Pacific as well as the new global Textile Chemical headquarters and application lab.

In 2010 Clariant’s Textile Chemical business unit generated sales of CHF 821 million and thereof 43% are earmarked from Asia. Today over 60% of the global textile production is located in Asia. The new South East Asia and Pacific regional hub (200 employees) serves also as headquarters for the Textile Chemical business and co-sharing is also the lately by Clariant acquired Süd-Chemie. Clariant’s sales in the S.E.A. and Pacific area amount to a share of 22%, evolving during the last five years from a share of 17%. Clariant’s investment was CHF 200 million only in China. Clariant’s management is fully convinced that the newly acquired Süd-Chemie will add significant further growth in Asia, because its business in Asia and the Middle East amounted before acquisition in 2010 to EUR 385 million taking a share of 31.5% of total sales and also one third of its employees are located in the region itself.

Clariant reports further the completion of its global ethoxylation site in China marking another significant investment by its ICS Industrial and Consumer Specialities business unit. The plant is located South East of Guangdong Province and on a surface of 80’000 m2 at Dayabay. The initial capacity of surfactants is close to 50’000 tons yearly. In addition also an autoclave laboratory is situated there to allow fast product development and customization of products to local demands.
